2018 Christmas Gifts for Modern Dads
Collaborative Post
Modern dads are taking on more parental responsibilities than ever before. And, as a mum who often feels overwhelmed, I’m so grateful to be facing parenting as a team!
So if you’re looking for some Christmas gifts to say thank you to the modern dads in your life, this is the 2018 gift guide for you!
The modern dads Christmas gift guide
Navy Short Sleeve Shirt
Dobell | £24.99 | Website
My husband can never get enough shirts (it’s like me with shoes… only worse!). But then you can’t go wrong with a navy shirt – it will match with anything and can be dressed up or down. I particularly like the short sleeves on this one (perfect for getting hands-on with the paint and playdough over the Christmas holidays!).
BB8 StarWars Lego Model
Amazon | £63.99 | Website (aff)
Lego is a fun, creative outlet – it’s a great way to switch off from the pressures of life and build something interesting. This model of the popular StarWars droid, BB8, is suitable for 10+yrs so it might even be something dad and the kids can do together!
DNA Ancestry Kit
Living DNA | £99.99 | Website
This might be one of the most fascinating things I’ve ever reviewed on Lucy At Home – a kit that analyses your DNA to find out where your ancestors are from! Results take 10-12 weeks so I haven’t got mine back yet, but apparently they can pinpoint exact locations, not just countries.
In a world that feels increasingly divided, I think it’s nice to be reminded that, at the end of the day, we’re all just part of a single human race.
4711 Eau de Cologne
4711 | £11.49 | Website
If the modern dads in your life appreciate a bit of class, they’ll love the 4711 Eau de Cologne. This peppery scent has been produced in Cologne, Germany, since 1799 and is still very popular today. It smells crisp and is said to “have a positive effect on the mind and body”.
Vintage Post Office Bow Tie
Phranbes | £68 | Website
Phranbes is a brand new start-up business. They source vintage / antique cloths and create unique, handmade bowties out of them. My dad used to work in the Post Office so I know he’ll love that this bowtie is made from a genuine 1900s post office coin sack!
These would make a fabulous gift for any quirky modern dads out there.

Fifa 19 (PS4)
Amazon | £49.32 | Website (aff)
I remember hubby’s first birthday after our eldest was born – he asked for an xbox game, and his dad laughed and told him that his gaming days were over…!
And yes, those full-day-gaming-marathons may be a thing of the past, but lots of modern dads still like to play the odd bit of Fifa in an evening once the kids are in bed. The 2019 update is quite different to the earlier versions, but it’ll keep him on his toes! Haha.
Classic 7 Blades Razor
Dorco | £8.74 | Website
Modern dads love to keep on top of their appearance (I can’t be the only one fighting to get a look in the bathroom mirror, can I?), and the Dorco Classic is a stylish razor that performs well. When it was launched in 2014, it was the world’s first seven-bladed razor!
An added bonus is that all Dorco razors use a common docking system so if you want to try a different blade later on, you can!
Glass Roasters
Duralex | from £11 | Website
When you’re a kid, Christmas day afternoon is spent playing with your presents. As an adult, you’re probably going to get toiletries and gift vouchers, so it’s not quite as easy. But buy your partner one of these fab glass roasting dishes and he can try it out straight away with the Christmas turkey! Haha.
And the good news is, it’s safe to use in the oven, freezer, dishwasher and microwave.
Ukelele
Amazon | £25.99 | Website (aff)
If you know someone who is a bit of a closet Ed Sheeran, why not splash out on their very own Ukelele – it’s super easy to learn, with just 4 strings to think about, and they come in a huge range of different colours.
Navy Rugby Shirt
Crew Clothing | £65 | Crew clothing Website
I love the laidback, effortless style of a rugby shirt. This navy blue and white striped top goes really well with a pair of jeans and, coming from Crew, you know it’s going to be a quality garment.

I really like the shirt! It can be difficult to know what to get can’t it, I know I struggle way more with buying for the men! #blogcrush
Oooo I couldn’t recommend the DNA kit enough. Both my husband and I have done it and we are now building our family tree as a legacy for the children. It’s turned out to be more exciting than I ever imagined. There are now a hundred historical stories to unpick (it feels like a lifetime of work – but luckily I love history). I also found my fathers side (on paper at least) so I now know where I come from for the first time. I was also surprised to discover I have the dna of a typical French person with Viking routes. Mad! xx
I think my partner would like the BB8 Star Wars LEGO more than he would admit! #BlogCrush
My hubby loves his shirts too. He would really love the DNA kit, he’s always been interested in his ancestry.
Great list with some really useful gifts.

What an interesting and ecclectic mix of gift ideas. This year I have promised myself to spend less, buy local, from self employed people I know who are great artists, crafters and makers. #blogcrush
Some great ideas here, I do struggle buying for the blokes. #BlogCrush
It isn’t too early for a Christmas Guide! I am already shopping!
Great list!

DNA kit, now that is definitely outside the box! Great ideas, Lucy! #blogcrush xo
Omg tooo early Lucy! Don’t remind me how many weeks until Christmas as I haven’t even thought about it yet (ok I kind of have but….). Good tips though! #blogcrush
Funny, the ukelele seems to be coming back into fashion in a big way. As for DNA ancestry kit, did one myself a while back. Bought up all manner of surprises form my past! Thanks for hosting #BlogVrush
Love the DNA kit -great for sciencey Dad’s – and Star Wars Lego ideas. We looked at the Millennium Falcon for Wild Daddy – have you seen the price?? Outrageous! But I’m not thinking about Christmas yet. It doesn’t happen in our house until after my birthday which is December 6th! #BlogCrush
That bow tie is so quirky and cool!!! Think Lego is a cute idea too for something that dads and kids can do as a team….well till the bickering starts.. #blogcrush
The DNA kit and Lego look excellent – as for the Ukulele, my choice would be a Banjo – I love the sound of those things!
Lots of lovely things there, why are men always the trickiest to buy for? The DNA kit certainly sounds fascinating and an unusual gift. I love that blue shirt too, does it come with the man inside it? 😀 #blogcrush
