Lucy At Home Does THE CHRISTMAS TAG

Eek! I’m so excited – Lucy from Lucy’s Locket has nominated me to do The Christmas Tag! I loooove Christmas! I love the music and the traditions and the magic and the lights and the presents and (obvs) Santa!

What’s Your Favourite Christmas Movie?

Ooh I love Christmas movies! I’ve always loved The Snowman. I remember watching it as a kid (a really flicker-y VHS copy that we’d recorded off the TV). And I think the new one, The Snowman And The Snowdog, is fab too.

Also, having spent 8 years of my life teaching music/performance in primary schools, I think Nativity! is hilarious!

Have You Ever Had A White Christmas?

I have!

I must’ve been less than 4  years old because of the house we were in, but I vividly remember building a little snowman on my garden wall and giving him a tinsel scarf.

Where Do You Usually Spend Your Holiday?

When I was a kid, we had a tradition for every part of the day: Christmas morning at our house, then Church, then Christmas Dinner and the afternoon at my cousins’ house. Then we had a 2nd Christmas at my Nana’s on New Year’s Eve.

Now it changes all the time as we travel the length and breadth of the country trying to see our far-flung families! But this year, we’ll be having Christmas at home, just the 4 of us, for the first time.

What Is Your Favourite Christmas Song?

It’s got to be Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin’ Stevens. Ooh I’ll be humming it all afternoon now! 🎶

But, as a musician, music is a BIG part of Christmas for me, from the Christmas Album on repeat, to school nativities, to carol concerts, and conducting my choir.

Do You Open Any Presents On Christmas Eve?

Oh no! All the presents are safely tucked away ready for Mummy and Daddy to dig them out Father Christmas to deliver once everyone is tucked up in bed.

Can You Name All Of Santa’s Reindeer?

Absolutely! The Night Before Christmas is my all-time favourite Christmas book, and my Mum used to read it to my brothers and I every night of the Christmas season! And now I read it to my girls too.

  2. Dancer
  3. Prancer
  4. Vixon
  5. Comet
  6. Cupid
  7. Donner
  8. Blitzen
  9. And Rudolph!

What Holiday Traditions Are You Looking Forward To This Year?

A family friend made these fabulous Christmas Stockings for our girls last year. Santa fills the girls’ stockings and they can open these in the morning. The rest of their presents come from friends and family so they’re opened later in the day when we see them.

My eldest (5) is in her first school nativity this year so I’m really excited to go and watch that. She’s been singing the songs for weeks and I know I’m going to blub like a baby watching her!

Miraculously, I’ve also been organised enough to book a visit with Santa on Christmas Eve, so I think that will be extra special! We’ll also be going to our church’s Carols By Candlelight service for a good old sing-song!

Is Your Christmas Tree Real Or Fake?

It’s fake. I’ve always had a fake tree so I don’t have any nostalgia about having a real one (plus those pine needles just seem like a nightmare to me!).

Team Fake all the way!

What’s Your All Time Favourite Holiday Treat/Food/Sweet?

I like the big tubs of Quality Street! I love that the whole family dips in and shares. Plus, those sweet wrappers are great for getting crafty!

Be Honest, Do You Like Giving Or Receiving Gifts Better?

It’s funny – as a kid, you can’t imagine enjoying watching someone else getting presents. But as a mum, the thought of my kids’ faces lighting up as they tear into their presents makes me giddy with excitement!

…But I do like receiving presents too (you’re not off the hook that easily, Mr Lucy!)

What Is The Best Christmas Present You Have Ever Received?

When I was about 6, I remember being desperate to have a keyboard. We didn’t have much money so I knew my parents wouldn’t be able to get me one, but I hoped against hope that Santa would be able to work his magic!

Christmas morning, sure enough, there it was! A tiny 15inch black keyboard in a fluorescent yellow box. I was so excited I thought I would burst. I loved it so much, it even went with me when I went to do a Music Degree at University!

What Would Be Your Dream Place To Visit For The Holiday Season?

We have a lot of Christmases away from home, so actually my dream place would be at our house, with all our family squeezed in (and someone else to make a fabulous Christmas Dinner for us), and snow outside!

Are You A Pro Present Wrapper Or Do You Fail Miserably?

I’m rubbish at wrapping presents! My hubby is the expert-wrapper in our house!

Most Memorable Holiday Moment?

I remember one Christmas at my grandparents’ house. I was beginning to question if Santa was real or not.

The grown-ups said that he was going to come while we were having a quick snack in the dining room. I kept a keen eye on all the grown-ups while we were eating to make sure that they didn’t leave the room and get the presents.

They didn’t.

And yet when we went back into the lounge, there were 5 sacks full of toys for my cousins and I. I still don’t know how they did it, to this day. I was convinced for several more years after that event!

What Made You Realise The Truth About Santa?

I can’t remember. I know I was 7 years old. It wasn’t a big deal, and I liked being “in” on the secret, and helping to perpetuate the magic of Santa for my younger brothers.

What Makes The Holidays Special For You?

Spending time as a family and doing all the festive traditions – Christmas markets, visiting Santa, Carol Concerts, decorating the tree, etc.

Now I tag Kimberly of Media Mummy, Tracey of Hooks and Dragons, Wendy of Naptime Natter, and Helen of Just Saying Mum. No worries if you can’t manage it, guys, but I thought it was quite fun 🙂

Ah what a great tag. I’m awful at wrapping too. We normally travel about at Christmas but we’re staying home this Christmas too. We did it last year for the first time and with two little ones it really is so much easier. Have a wonderful Christmas lovey. Thanks for sharing at #familyfun xx

I’m sure they’re more bothered about what’s inside than anything else! When I was a kid, we didn’t even have stockings – the whole concept is new to me and something we inherited from my husband’s family. L

It is so lovely to hear about other people’s Christmas traditions and memories. How nice that you also tag in some friends! Great to hear how their experiences compare to yours. I love the memory of how the presents just appeared – you’ll have to ask around and see how that happened! #TheList
