Our Easy, Edible Fish Craft – step-by-step guide

My kids love doing craft… which is tricky because I am probably the least crafty person there is! I can definitely get on board with eating, though, and so our Easy, Edible Fish Craft was born. Haha.

I ran this craft as part of a kids session at church and we had children aged 2 to 11. They all loved it because – well who doesn’t love a craft that uses sweets and food colouring?! – it’s easy to do and looks great.

It’s also takes very little preparation so is great for a spontaneous school holiday activity.

You will need

  • 1 Digestive biscuit
  • 1 tsp Soft brown sugar
  • Fish sweets
  • Blue food colouring
  • Butter icing
  • Sugar pearls (optional)

How to make the edible fish craft

Edible Fish Craft Digestive Biscuit

1.Using a teaspoon, cover 1 side of a digestive biscuit with blue butter icing. Try to spread it out to all the edges. This is the sea.

2.Sprinkle brown sugar onto the bottom of the biscuit. This is the sand at the bottom of the ocean.

For older children, get them to hover their finger over the biscuit to create a neat top edge.

3.Stick on some fish sweets. We used 1 dolphin and 1 turtle.

4.Add some sugar pearls for bubbles.

This craft is so easy and yet it looks really effective. As my regular readers will know, I like to organise our school holidays around themed weeks. We’ll be using this edible fish craft as part of our “Under the sea” theme. For more “Under the sea” ideas and to check out our other themes and activities, pop back next week, or you could check out the themes we’ve already done in this list of stay at home activities for the summer holidays.

Do your kids like doing crafts? Do you organise crafts for them to do or let them create their own? Have you ever tried making edible crafts? Please leave me some feedback below. I read all of your comments.
