Crumble’s Search for Christmas – a theatre trip for littlies

Collaborative Post

It has become a little family tradition that we go and see a show at the theatre on the run-up to Christmas. We are very lucky that the West Yorkshire Playhouse is near where we live, and they produce some amazing work there!

Crumble’s Search for Christmas

This year’s family Christmas show is Crumble’s Search for Christmas. It a beautifully enchanting tale about a little woodland creature called Crumble. After finding an old Christmas card in the woods, Crumble decides not to hibernate this year and, instead, sets out on an adventure to find out what Christmas is all about.

I won’t give the ending away but I will say that our 3 year old was so moved by the finale that she started jumping up and down and clapping. It was a lovely ending and such a sweet, happy tale all about sharing the magic of Christmas with everyone around us. We also howled with laughter at the snowball fight scene. We would definitely recommend it.

Theatre Trips with Little Ones

I was really nervous the first time we took our littlies to the theatre as I wasn’t sure they would be able to sit quietly for a full performance. However, I didn’t need to worry – the children’s shows at the West Yorkshire Playhouse have always been really family-friendly.

8 Ways Crumble’s Search for Christmas is a great first show for little ones:

  • It’s only 50 minutes long
  • It was fine for the children to whisper and move from their seats onto our knees if needed
  • Crumble and her sisters came into the auditorium about 10 minutes before the start of the show and set the scene. They were sweeping leaves on the stage, and asking “How long now?” It really helped to build the anticipation kept the little ones entertained while they were waiting
  • It is a magical way to kickstart your Christmas
  • The lights only dimmed slightly for the first scene so we weren’t suddenly plunged into darkness. Even when it got darker later on, there was still plenty of light
  • The woodland characters were funny and endearing
  • The performances take place during the day: 10:30, 13:00, 15:30, 16:30
  • It is specifically pitched at children aged 2-6 years (although our almost-seven-year-old loved it too so I’d say it would easily appeal to older kids too)

I do love a good theatre trip at Christmas and this sounds like a lovely production and only 50 minutes long which is just perfect because some of them are far too long for a child’s attention span! Thanks for linking up to #coolmumclub with this Lucy xox

This sounds like such a lovely production! We do go to the theatre, though as Little Button was lucky enough to be taken to a pretty amazing West End Panto this year with school, we haven’t booked anything! Ekk. I’m starting to wonder if I should though. Thanks for joining us for the #DreamTeam. I wonder if this show will be doing the rounds next year, perhaps we can catch it then. x
