Barbecue : Mummy vs. Daddy (includes wine giveaway)

Collaborative Post

We love having a barbecue at our house. As soon as the weather gets above freezing (slight exaggeration but not by much), we break out our trusty family-sized barbecue and get cooking!

But there are definitely some differences between the way that daddy and mummy think that a barbecue should be run…

Mummy’s Barbecue vs. Daddy’s Barbecue

Meat

Mummy: Choose simple foods that the kids will enjoy – hot dogs and burgers will go down a treat.

Daddy: Empty the supermarket’s entire meat counter – lamb chops, spare ribs, pork belly, a whole chicken, rump steak, bacon, Spanish chorizo, chicken drumsticks, pork sausages (thick and thin), lamb burgers, beef burgers, venison burgers

Side Dishes

Mummy: Let’s get a little pasta salad or some couscous to go on the side. That will keep the meal fresh and give the kids a nice dose of vitamins.

Daddy: MEAT!

Barbecue sausages burgers BBQ

Time

Mummy: The kids normally eat at about 5:30 and will get cranky if they have to wait too long. Let’s be as efficient as possible and get this cooked and onto the table.

Daddy: You have to take your time with a barbecue – it’s all about the laid-back, summer lifestyle…

Entertainment

Mummy: “Lily, that barbecue is hot. Don’t go anywhere near it.”

“No the food isn’t ready yet.”

“Harry, if you kick that ball near the barbecue again, you’ll be in trouble.”

“I thought I told you to stay away from the barbecue.”

“I know you’re hungry but we have to wait for the food to cook.”

“I can’t help it if the smoke is making you cough. Go and wait inside.”

“No you’re not watching TV. We’re supposed to be enjoying time as a family.”

“If you go anywhere near that barbecue again, you’ll be going to bed.”

Daddy: [Music blasting out] Barbecues are so relaxing!

Cleaning Up

Mummy: Let’s put that greasy grill to soak as soon as possible, and we’d better put the barbecue back in the garage in case it rains tomorrow

Daddy: [too stuffed to move] I’ll do it tomorrow (or at least that’s what I’ll tell you and then I’ll mysteriously forget and eventually mummy will get fed up and scrub everything down herself)

Drinks

Mummy: You can’t beat a glass of sparkling wine to help you relax

Daddy: You can’t beat a case of sparkling wine to help you relax

After cutting down my alcohol consumption to zero for years, I’ve decided to take a more laid back approach recently and am having a couple of glasses with dinner now and then. This would be perfect to win for the summer!

This is hilarious! We’re a bit rubbish, my Italian Husband refuses to use a gas bbq and then refuses to use firelighters to help it light as they’re not real fire and then it takes about 7 hours for the thing to get hot enough to cook on! LOL! #blogcrush

Well I must say I am partial to a side salad and I also do the washing up! But I can imagine how BBQs play out like this in many homes across the land! Now, if only the sun would stay out… #blogcrush

Really love this! Especially the entertainment section! I must admit though, the cleaning up for us is the opposite…Me:” Night” (slump into bed stuffed)
Him ” I’ll just get the BBQ scraper thingy and stand and scrape, polish and kiss the BBQ so it’ll be ready again for tomorrow.”

I’d love to win them as my husband can’t drink champagne, being allergic to the chardonnay grape, so he never gets to join in when we’re drinking fizz.
Loved your post, the his/hers BBQ comments are so very true!

I love sparkling wine, and these look great. Don’t tend to bother with a bbq though, would rather put the oven on and make sure things are properly cooked. Then take it outside if we want.
